What You’ll Learn

Our Pharmacy Technician Preparedness program is designed around five core themes to help you achieve certification and career success. Our courses are structured to fit your busy schedule, allowing you to learn at your own pace and on your own time — from anywhere. Included in the coursework is BLS (Basic Life Support) certification, providing you with essential life-saving skills in addition to pharmacy training.

Introduction to Pharmacy & Healthcare

You will explore the role of the pharmacy technician in different healthcare settings, while learning about professionalism, effective communication, and patient confidentiality under HIPAA. The program also introduces you to the structure of the U.S. healthcare system, key pharmacy laws, and the ethical responsibilities of technicians.

Pharmacology & Medications

You’ll gain a solid understanding of drug classifications, names, and common uses, including dosage forms and routes of administration. The course also covers over-the-counter products, herbal supplements, and teaches you how to recognize when to refer a patient to a pharmacist.

Prescription Processing & Calculations

You will learn how to read and process prescriptions accurately, including how to use pharmacy software systems. The program provides in-depth training on essential pharmacy math, such as dose calculations, conversions, IV calculations, and compounding formulas. Medication safety practices are emphasized throughout to help prevent errors.

Pharmacy Operations & Compounding

This theme focuses on pharmacy operations, including inventory management, billing, and handling insurance claims. You will also learn proper techniques for handling, labeling, and storing medications, along with an introduction to sterile and non-sterile compounding and cleanroom procedures.

Certification & Career Readiness

The program prepares you for the PTCB and/or NHA certification exams through review sessions and practice tests. You’ll also develop career skills, including how to write a strong resume, prepare for interviews, and plan for your future in the pharmacy field. Finally, you’ll learn strategies to thrive in your first pharmacy technician role and continue growing professionally.
